[ Jade can't help but feel something is wrong this morning when she wakes up. She feels like she's missed something, almost like she's been asleep for a long time. She stumbles out of bed, feeling a little fuzzy, noticing the changes to her room. The window's been repaired, there's a backpack that she didn't have before with half finished homework on the desk. She doesn't really start to feel concerned until she looks at the calendar on her wall, which has been flipped over to October.

That can't be right.

She grabs it from the wall, bursts out into the hallway still in her nightgown and clutching it to her chest. ]

Karkat? Gamzee?

[ phone ]

Hi Mayfield! Long time no talk! Or maybe we did talk, but it wasn't me me, it was creepy drone me. I'm not really sure what happened, I can't remember anything since, hmmm, a couple weeks ago, I think, after the zombies. I don't remember going home, or being here, nothing! It's kind of scary, but I'm glad that I was a normal creepy drone and not a murderous creepy drone. I really hope that doesn't happen to me again. Have you ever had something like that happen to you? Not even just droning but, I don't know, something reeeeally creepy where you almost... don't exist. It's kind of scary.

Oh, and apparently I'm a girl scout now, hehe.

[ afternoon ; your front door ]

[ There is some pretty persistent knocking at your front door right now. If and when you get around to answering it, you will find Jade on your doorstep, wagon stacked high with boxes of cookies behind her. She is looking particularly adorable right now, all dressed up in a girl scout's uniform. ]

Hi!! Do you like cookies?

[ phone; fail filter to eridan ]

Eridan? Hi, um... how are you?

You look like a human! Are you suuuure you're not one?

[Snorts and leans closer to her, noses nearly touching.]

No. You look Time Lord. We came first.

[ Jade scrunches her nose, trying to keep a straight face. That lasts all about two seconds before she's grinning one of her signature goofy grins. ]

Time Lord? I thought you said you were a doctor.

[Well, that's okay because he's grinning too. He taps her nose with a finger.]

The Doctor not a doctor. It's the definite article that counts, pay attention.

I know you're The Doctor, but you also said you were a doctor. And now you are a Time Lord too!

Boring. And stuffy. Lots of time machines they had but never wanted to use.

Well I don't think you seem very boring or stuffy. [ and herein lies a long, dramatic pause. ] Yet.

[ ok one more dramatic pause. ]

Who tries to steal cookies from children.

Why thank you. [ and ever observant and maybe a little tactlessly; ] You are very skinny for someone who likes cookies as much as you seem to.

[ Jade chews thoughtfully, considering her next question. ]

Do you run to things or away from them?

Both.

Though, bit less running here. [A shrug, a slightly sad one.] Not much to run from. No where to run to.

That's true, but maybe it's nice to get a break from running. Not that this place is very nice half the time, but there are still some good things about it.

[He smiles at her, a tired smile, one that seems too old for his appearance.]

Keep those good things in mind, yeah? Don't let them take it from you.

[ Jade hopes off the stoop, places her hands on his shoulders and leans close so that he can see how veeeery serious she is. ]

You have to promise to do the same thing.

[He leans closer to her as well. But it's still that same sad smile.]

[ She sees the sadness quite clearly, and wishes there was something she could say or do to make that go away. But she's only just met him, and her options are limited, so she goes for something simple. ]

Good. [ She hugs him around the shoulders, as tightly as she can manage. ] I will be holding you to that so you better watch out.
